The annual Festival of Cultures celebrates its fifteenth year in 2010. This year the festival will be celebrated over the weekend of 24 & 25 July.
From its modest beginnings on the outskirts of Childers attracting only 6,000 people, the Childers Festival of Cultures now draws in excess of 50,000 people over the weekend.
A myriad of artists will be performing in the street and on various stages starting at 2.00pm on Saturday with the Community Street Party.
Sunday is Festival Day! ENTRY IS FREE!
A mini village of street stalls - this year topping 450 - springs up within hours on Sunday to cater for visitors from 9am.
The stalls, over the years, have been refined to attract the best and most varied stalls of arts, crafts, and goods from throughout the Wide Bay and beyond.
Crayfish, kebabs, german sausage, smoked fish and traditional dishes from dozens of countries ensures a rich aroma drifts across the festival site. Of course, all of the local eating establishments are open and available for sit down meals.
Parking areas close to the festival site are available at reasonable rates. Those wishing to avail themselves of free parking can take advantage of the shutttle service which regularly runs to the festival area.
This year's Childers Festival of Cultures is benefiting from funding under the Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP). QERDP is an investment program designed to extend the flow of economic and social benefits of events to regional Queensland. A state-wide initiative, the program is committed to enhancing existing events in regional Queensland, as well as assisting in the establishment of new events.
Since the QERDP began in 2001, more than $15.3 million has been invested in 705 regional events, an indicator of the important role these events play in their communities and wider Queensland.
